B.TECH PROJECT:

TOPIC: CPFSK DEMODULATION SCHEMES

GUIDE: Dr. A. Mahanta,
Prof., ECE Dept., IIT Guwahati.

This project was carried out over a period of one-year as a part of B.Tech 4th year curriculum. CPFSK signals are known for their spectral efficiency and find applications in several wireless standards like GSM, CT-2, and DECT. Though conventional coherent correlation receiver is known for long as the optimal demodulation scheme for CPFSK signals, the current emphasis is on sub-optimal/ near optimal coherent and non-coherent schemes with reduced complexity level. This project was implemented with this aim in mind. Details can be found in the report.

SOFTWARE PROJECTS:

PERFORMANCE OF MMSE SISO IC-LE TURBO EQUALIZERS:(Summer,2006)

Guide: Dr. Dominique Leroux,
Asstt. Prof., Dept. of Signals & Communication, ENST-
Bretagne, France.

The Project implemented a MMSE SISO turbo- equalizer on MATLAB using an Interference Canceller Linear Equalizer (IC-LE), followed by its performance evaluation using BCH Block codes & convolution codes.

DESIGN OF A COMPACT PIFA FOR PCS APPLICATIONS: (Spring, 2006)
Guide: Dr.K.R.Singh,
Asstt. Prof., ECE Dept., IIT Guwahati.

PIFA- Planar Inverted F Antennas find wide applications in mobile phones and several other personal communication system (PCS) applications. However, their major restriction is narrow bandwidth. The aim of my project was to design and implement a linearly tapered PIFA that overcomes the band -width restriction using High Frequency Simulation Software (HFSS).

GABOR FILTER BASED VOP DETECTION ALGORITHM: (Summer, 2005)
Guide: Dr. SRM Prasanna
Asstt. Prof., ECE Dept., IIT Guwahati.

Owing to the applicability of VOP (Vowel Onset Point) detection in Speech recognition and designing of hearing aids, several algorithms have been devised for VOP detection. We made an attempt to devise a more efficient algorithm using Gabor filter. The method exploits the pitch and energy parameters of speech for VOP detection. The work was done on TIMIT database.

DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION KIT FOR A BASIC COURSE IN COMMUNICATIONS: (Spring, 2005)
Guide: Dr. SRM Prasanna
Asstt. Prof., ECE Dept., IIT Guwahati.

The project involved development of a software Education Kit (in MATLAB 6.0/6.5) for a basic course in communications. It is meant to be an easy to use tool for explaining/ understanding of basic concepts in communications.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT OF A ROBOTIC CART: (December, 2004)
Guide: Dr. J.K.Mukherjee
DRHR, BARC Mumbai.

This project was a part of the ongoing work on the software development of a robotic cart designed at DRHR, BARC Mumbai. My work involved development of robotic vision for detection of nuclear material based on sensor data. This involved application of elementary concepts of Artificial Intelligence & Pattern Recognition. I also worked on the motion controller software which would enable the control of the speed and direction of the cart through multiple computer interfaces and also give a visual display of the cart's motion. The coding was done in VB6 environment.

MODELLING OF Cu-H2 SYSTEMS: (Summer, 2004)
Guide: Dr. S. Adhikari,
Asstt. Prof., Department of Chemistry, IIT Guwahati.

There are various industrial applications of Cu-H2 systems involving adsorption of H2 on Copper surface. My project was aimed at computer modeling of Cu-H2 systems, writing codes in C for analysis of FCC copper lattices, 100, 110 & 111 planes, potential energy functions (PEFs) for Cu-H2 systems and simulating the program for analyzing various industrial scenarios

HARDWARE PROJECTS:

HARDWARE IMPLEMENTATION OF SPEECH ENCRYPTER-DECRYPTER: (Spring,2006)
Guide: Dr. Abhijeet Mitra,
Asstt. Prof., ECE Dept., IIT Guwahati.

It finds applications in secured communication through insecure channels. Most of the existing designs are expensive and highly complex. We were successful in implementing a simple, effective and cost efficient design of the same.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION OF A TACHOMETER: (Autumn, 2004)
GUIDE: Dr. A.K. Gogoi,
Prof., ECE Dept., IIT Guwahati.

The high price range of commercially available Tachometer, motivated us to design a low-cost tachometer using simple discrete and integrated circuit components. The circuit was successfully implemented on a PCB and was operational in the frequency range of 10-60 Hz. The cost of the circuit was drastically less compared to commercial models.
